INDUSTRY:

Manufacturing has overtaken agriculture as the main source of income following an intensive programme of industrialisation.

The principal manufactured products are pharmaceuticals, electrical and electronic equipment, processed food, textiles, clothing, rum, petrochemicals and refined oil.

Puerto Rico has limited natural resources, although small deposits of nickel and copper have been located.

The prinicpal agricultural products include dairy, fruit, sugarcane, vegetable and livestock. Fresh fruit and vegetables are grown for export.

Tourism is the largest growing industry in Puerto Rico and through investment has undergone steady growth in recent years.
