INDUSTRY:

Jamaica’s economy is based on tourism, bauxite mining, textiles, light manufacturing and rum production. Jamaica’s first gold mine became operational in 2001.

The government is actively encouraging investment in the tourism industry. Approximately 60% of the workforce is employed in service industries including tourism.
